Since the size system is not standardized, the sizes given by different manufacturers often differ from one another. Even the data from Germany and France differ, even though they both use the continental European system. Brits and Americans also have their own system.

The shoe size mostly results from the foot length. The width and girth of the foot are usually not considered, although the ball of the foot (the girth of the foot at its widest point) can also be an important indicator.

To determine the European size: Shoe size (EU) = inside length in cm × 1.5

In relation to the foot length: Shoe size (EU) ≈ (foot length in cm + 1.5) × 1.5

Detection:

Since the foot pushes forward when rolling, an allowance of 15mm should be taken into account when choosing the right length in order to have sufficient free space on the toes. The actual space required can vary. If the shoe becomes flatter towards the tip, the foot needs a higher allowance than with a high toe cap.

The shoe width is very important for the fit, wearing comfort, durability of the shoes and foot health. The volume of a foot changes during a day. The feet are bigger in the evening than in the morning. With the right upper material (leather), the shoe expands through the warmth of the foot and retracts back into its original fit if you give the shoe a day of rest. Compliance with the breaks and the use of shoe trees are elementary for maintaining the fit and care of the shoes.
